FieldTurf surfaces at Pickard Field and Whittier Field

Polar Bear Soccer Academy takes place on the Bowdoin College campus in picturesque Brunswick, Maine.  Bowdoin is approximately 30 minutes north of Portland and two hours from Boston.  Nearby airports include Portland, ME (30 miles), Manchester, NH (120 miles), and Boston, MA (130 miles).  Amtrak serves the Brunswick, ME station, which is just a short walk from campus.  For transportation to/from the Portland International Jetport or Transportation Center, we highly recommend Outward Express: (207) 865-0890.

Our grass game field will be resurfaced this spring and summer, so the sessions will be held on FieldTurf surfaces at Pickard Field and Whittier Field.

Pickard Women's Soccer Field

The Bowdoin College men's and women's soccer teams practice and play on separate fields contained in the 35-acre Pickard Field complex. The women's soccer game field is directly south of Watson Arena, surrounded by the picturesque Bowdoin pines.

Both fields are considered among the best fields in New England when accounting for the grass playing surfaces and the natural beauty of coastal Maine.

Pickard Multipurpose Turf

The newest addition to Bowdoin's Pickard Field complex is the Multipurpose Turf Field. A lighted facility with FieldTurf surface, the field is lined for soccer and rugby, and has removable rugby goal posts. The field is used for a wide range of intramural and club sport offerings, practices, and as a poor-weather location for soccer matches, when needed.

More information on the history of Whittier Field, Hubbard Grandstand, and the Class of 1903 Gateway is available in The Architecture of Bowdoin College, available in Bowdoin’s Digital Commons.
